Why stay in Amsterdam?

Is there even a need to explain why Amsterdam is a must-visit? It’s mixing rich history, impressive architecture, and a buzzing cultural scene. Famous for its 17th century canal system, world-class museums, and lively vibe, the Dutch capital has something for everyone.

Whether you’re checking out masterpieces at the Rijksmuseum, diving into the city’s epic nightlife or cruising through charming streets on a bike, Amsterdam always delivers. It’s no wonder Amsterdam is a city that welcomes millions of visitors every year. Amsterdam has a strong backpacker scene and is ideal for budget travelers. While cycling is popular, most attractions are easily explored on foot.

Best budget hostels in Amsterdam (prices & tips): where to stay?

Just like many other European hotspots, Amsterdam isn’t exactly famous for being cheap. But don’t worry, staying on a tight budget is doable!

Even in the city center, you can find affordable options and cheap hostels including well-known options like Hans Brinker Hostel, which combines low prices with a lively atmosphere. Prices aren’t just about location, they’re also driven by the type of accommodation and the time of year. As well, shared rooms or smaller private rooms usually cost much less than full hotel suites.

When it comes to budget-friendly stays in Amsterdam, there are a few types of accommodation that work perfectly:

  • Hostels: They are social, fun, and perfect for meeting other travelers. They often include extras like lounges, bars, or communal spaces.
  • Budget hotels: These offer more privacy while keeping costs low, ideal if you want a quieter stay without breaking the bank.
  • B&Bs & short-term rentals: They are great for living like a local, often with kitchen facilities to save on meals and stretch your budget further.

With a little planning and a focus on the type of stay and timing, you can enjoy Amsterdam to the fullest without draining your wallet. This makes a stay perfect for young adventurers who want epic experiences on a budget!

Why choose a budget hostel Amsterdam?

Staying in a hostel in Amsterdam is the ultimate choice for travelers looking to save money while fully diving into everything the city has to offer. Hostels offer some of the lowest prices in the city, which means you can extend your stay and spend extra cash on activities and experiences instead of just your bed. Many hostels also come with cool extras like shared lounges or organized events. Making your stay both fun and convenient.

Beyond the savings, hostels are social hubs where meeting other travelers is part of the experience. Shared spaces like chill-out areas and bars create the perfect environment to swap travel tips, share stories, or even make lifelong friends from all over the world. And if you want a bit more privacy, many hostels also offer private rooms.

Budget hostel prices Amsterdam: what to expect?

Hostel prices in Amsterdam can vary a lot and comparing them isn’t always straightforward. Every hostel has its own vibe, think location, amenities, atmosphere, and those little extras that can make your stay even better. Plus, there’s a big difference between dorm beds and private rooms, each with its own price range. The season also plays a role, with higher prices during summer, weekends, and major events, and lower rates in quieter months. Here’s a simple breakdown to give you an idea of what to expect:

  • Budget hostels:
    • Dorms starting from €20 per night
    • Private rooms starting from €50 per night
  • Mid-range / step-up hostels:
    • Dorms starting from €40 per night
    • Private rooms starting from €70 per night
  • Higher-end hostels:
    • Dorms starting from €60 per night
    • Private rooms starting from €90 per night

Hans Brinker Hostel is located in the center of Amsterdam, just a 15-minute walk from the city’s main attractions. We offer both private rooms and shared dorms starting from €23,50 per person per night. Book your stay in Amsterdam now!

What are the pro’s and con’s of an affordable hostel in Amsterdam?

Staying in a low-cost hostel in Amsterdam can be a total blast, but it’s not for everyone. The awesome part?

  • Good locations: Many hostels are right in the city center or close to public transport. This makes getting around easy.
  • Budget-friendly: Booking a hostel leaves you with more cash for canal cruises, street food, or a great night out.
  • The social vibe: You can meet travelers from all over the world, go out together, swap tips, and maybe even make lifelong friends.
  • Clean and comfy: Don’t worry, just because it’s often cheaper doesn’t mean it’s gross. Most modern hostels are clean, comfy, and have cozy beds perfect for recharging after a day of experiencing.

Of course, there are a few downsides as well.

  • Hostels aren’t luxurious: Rooms can be small, bathrooms are often shared, and privacy is limited, especially in dorms.
  • Noisy: Noise and chaos can pop up in lively hostels.

But if you’re looking for fun, affordable, and social vibes, hostels are hard to beat!

How to choose the best price-quality budget hostel Amsterdam?

Looking for an affordable hostel in Amsterdam that gives you great value for your money? It’s about knowing what to look for. Keep these tips in mind:

  • Location matters: Pick a hostel that’s close to the city center or near public transport. It’ll save you time and hassle getting around Amsterdam. Also, check whether the area feels safe, especially if you’re traveling solo.
  • Check reviews: Browse platforms like Booking.com, Hostelworld.com, and Tripadvisor.com, or visit the hostel’s own website to see what other travelers are saying. Real experiences give you a more reliable idea of what to expect.
  • Look at the facilities: Free Wi-Fi, a bar, a shared kitchen, and lockers can make your stay way more comfortable without extra cost.
  • Compare prices smartly: Use different websites to find deals, but don’t just go for the cheapest. Balance price with quality.
  • Choose the right room: Go for a social dorm if you want to meet people, or pick a private room if you value your own space.
  • Read the hostel rules: Things like quiet hours, breakfast hours, smoking policies, or alcohol rules can impact your vibe. Better know before you book.
