Hans Brinker is an adult-focused hostel near Leidseplein in central Amsterdam. Shared dorm beds are for adults aged 18+. The detailed room terms direct guests aged 40 and above to a private room or an entire dorm; confirm the suitable option with reception before booking. Requests involving anyone under 18 need the room, dates and required approval checked first.
The “18–40” wording describes our dorm policy, not a promise that every hostel guest falls within that range. The detailed conditions distinguish individual shared-dorm beds from private rooms or an entire dorm. Read the current room terms and contact reception before paying if the right option for your age or group is unclear.

What Does the 18-40 Age Policy Actually Mean?
Shared dorm beds are for adults aged 18+. Our detailed room terms direct guests aged 40 and above to a private room or an entire dorm; confirm the suitable option and availability with reception before booking. If anyone is under 18, contact reservations before paying to check the room type, travel dates and any required approval under the underage and group conditions. A private-room selection alone does not confirm eligibility. Bring your original ID for check-in and ensure every person in the booking meets the conditions for the selected room.
Why Have an Age Limit for Dorms?
Let’s be honest: our hostel is built around a lively, social stay rather than quiet luxury. An adult-focused dorm policy helps set that expectation, but age alone does not tell you how any roommate will behave or how well you will sleep. Compare the room description and house rules with your own plans; our quiet hours still apply.
Who Is This Adults-Only Policy For?
Our adult-focused dorm policy is aimed at social travelers who enjoy energy and interaction. If you fit into one of these categories, you’ll probably feel right at home:
- Backpackers & Solo Travelers: Looking to meet new friends to explore (or party with) in the city.
- Students & Youth Groups: Seeking an affordable, central base with a lively social scene.
- Party Crews: In Amsterdam for a good time, not a long time (we welcome stag and bachelorette parties who know how to behave).
- Budget-Conscious Adventurers: Want the full, chaotic, and authentic hostel experience without breaking the bank.
Can I Still Stay if I’m Over 40?
Our detailed room terms direct guests aged 40 and above to a private room or an entire dorm. Ask reception to confirm availability and the suitable arrangement before booking. Private options include the Classic Twin, Deluxe Twin and Grown-Up room. They offer your own sleeping space within the same lively hostel; they do not guarantee a silent stay.
So, Is It a Party Hostel or a Place to Sleep?
Both, if you’re lucky. We are unapologetically a party hostel. We have a bar that serves snacks until 3 am and a basement club, Onder Hans, that hosts events and parties. The atmosphere is loud, social, and often chaotic. However, we also provide clean beds, en-suite bathrooms, and enforce quiet hours in the hallways from 10 PM. We give you the tools to party hard and a place to crash afterward. Just remember our motto: we’re not here to babysit.
